2026 is 90% Booked: Last Call for Summer Repaints - 406-209-8876

At Walker V Painting, we believe that color consultations aren’t just an optional add-on — they’re a critical part of delivering a job our clients will love. I want to share a couple of stories from my own experience to show exactly why this step is so important, and how it can save homeowners both time and money.
A few years back, I took on an exterior paint project for a couple living near one of my old houses. It was convenient — I could just roll out of bed, grab my coffee, and be on-site in five minutes. The project started like any other: job booked, colors picked, and the clients decided to head out of town while we got to work.
Before they left, they showed me a swatch, confirmed the color, and off they went. As we started painting, though, I couldn’t help but notice… this color was *bright*. Think neon green — the kind of shade that turns heads in Bozeman, and not in a good way.
About halfway through the job, I got a panicked call from the homeowners. Their neighbors had reached out, telling them they’d picked the wrong color. Sure enough, we had a problem.
Thankfully, I was able to help them remotely pick a new, more fitting color — one I had used before that worked beautifully on homes like theirs. We finished the job and, as far as I know, it’s still holding up great today.
But here’s the catch: that mistake cost them an extra $500 in paint alone. Because I wanted to do right by them, I only charged for the additional materials, not labor. If labor had been included, it could’ve easily doubled that cost.
A more recent story comes from a custom home project we took over from another well-respected local paint company. We assumed everything had been dialed in, but soon discovered some key details — like beam and trim finishes — hadn’t been finalized.
The client had a specific look in mind for the beams, and while we created samples based on what she described, none of them landed right. What followed was nearly a month of back-and-forth — making sample boards, testing finishes, removing old stain, and starting over multiple times.
We even had to bring in our Sherwin-Williams rep to help guide the decision after I had already invested hundreds of dollars in materials and countless hours trying to dial it in. In the end, the beams turned out stunning, but it could’ve all been avoided with a proper, upfront consultation.
These experiences are exactly why we’ve made color consultations an essential, non-negotiable part of our process at Walker V Painting. Here’s how it works:
And here’s the best part — we include this service at no extra charge. It’s built into what we do because it saves everyone time, money, and headaches down the line.

Without a proper color consultation, one of two things happens:
Neither outcome is good, and both are entirely avoidable. By taking the extra time upfront, we ensure that when the paint finally hits the walls, it’s exactly what the client envisioned.
If your painter isn’t offering this kind of service, you could be rolling the dice on one of the most important design decisions for your home. At Walker V Painting, we believe our clients deserve better — and that’s why we do it this way.
